It's a shame what I'm hearing about the Confederate campaign, I actually got a bit into one without it crashing, but I'm not at turn 25 yet so I'd take the word of the people leaving comments. The Union would form new regiments and while leaving the old ones to get worn down over time, sometimes merging them if 2 regiments became too small to be effective.
